Live4Lane Foundation Holds Memorial Walk Supporting Youth Mental Wellness

The Live4Lane Foundation will hold its seventh annual Memorial Walk on Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Lowes Island Community Center in Sterling. The family- and dog-friendly 2.5K/5K walk brings neighbors together to support youth mental wellness and keep conversations about mental health going.

Registration opens at 8 a.m., with opening remarks and the walk starts at 9 a.m.

Created in memory of Lane Burrows, a Dominion High School student, Live4Lane carries forward his legacy of acceptance and kindness through mental health awareness, scholarships and opportunities for young people to lead.

This year’s community resource village will bring together area nonprofits, school clubs, sponsors and mental wellness resources. Walkers can explore nervous-system regulation and coping tools, learn about careers in mental health, and share what brings them to the walk at the “My Why” table. Raffles and an online silent auction will support the Foundation’s programs and scholarships.

Over the past six years, Live4Lane has recorded more than 960 participants who walked and pledged to support mental wellness, connection, kindness and advocacy. Since 2023, the Foundation has awarded more than $40,000 in scholarships and awards supporting young people, including three $3,600 Mental Health Advocacy Scholarships in 2026.

In 2027, Live4Lane plans to award four $3,600 Mental Health Advocacy Scholarships and two $500 Intern Scholarships, a further $15,400 investment in young people. Community support includes a $5,000 contribution from Equinix combining event sponsorship and scholarship funding.

“Equinix is proud to join the Live4Lane Foundation Memorial Walk and Advocacy Scholarship Program to promote mental health education and awareness, especially among local high school students,” stated Equinix Head of State and Local Public Policy & Government Affairs Rey Cheatham Banks. “Together, we can help empower youth advocates and ensure more educational resources are available to destigmatize mental illness in our schools and throughout the community."

“Our mission is to honor Lane’s memory by building connections, supporting families, and breaking the stigma around mental health,” said Maranda Heil, Founder of The Live4Lane Foundation. “We are grateful to everyone who continues to walk with us, volunteer, advocate and help create a community where people feel comfortable talking openly about mental health.”

Walkers and volunteers are still needed.Register to walk, sign up to volunteer or learn more at Live4Lane.org/walk. Teen volunteer service hours are available.
